Asche, who was called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on July 31, hit his fourth homer of the season and is 7-for with five RBIs in his last three games. Asche sported a bruise on the inside of his lower left thigh, but that had nothing to do with his hamstring injury. The move was a precaution after backup catcher Wil Nieves tweaked his quadriceps on the last of his three hits Wednesday, but Nieves showed up at Busch Stadium confident that the twinge was due to cramping as opposed to a pull. Whichever of those two survives that move probably returns to Lehigh Valley in the next day or two when Tony Gwynn Jr.
