The author has somewhat of a monotone voice, however once into it, you sort of forget about that and really get into the story. I love this book I love the movie as well but so sad and teaches kids to never trust anyone or trust strangers.
This is a fantastic story, great writing, kept me glued to find out what was next. However, the author is a wonderful writer, I found her narrating her own novel hard to follow. She was very monotone and sing-song with her reading.
It's a somber story, yes, but she had zero inflection. Very dry read for such a great story. I'd give it 4 stars if not for the narration. I thought that the author did a nice job reading her own novel.
I guess others wanted her to change her voice according to the character or something. The book is well written, but is hard to listen to on the first CD as this is when the murder occurs. After that it is interesting and generally engaging. I expected a large, climatic ending as we all want the bad guy to pay a price for his evil deeds, but to me the book sort of ends with a whimper which is why I only gave it 3 stars instead of my intended 4.
This was a book I'll never read again although I am glad I have read it. It was disturbing and terrible in its reality but the author shows truth in human nature which I am a fan of.
